Polishing an Aluminium Racecar

We’ve been really lucky to follow the progress of our customer Julian’s racecar project. He has lovingly brought it up to an amazing finish using a number of our products.

He started with a pretty scratched surface, this he refined through the grades of wet and dry. Entirely worth the effort as it prepared the Aluminium for polishing, any scratches left behind would show in the finished article.

The mops he used were 8” dry sisal, white sticthed and then WDR. Compounds used, Apollo, Sunblue and P175 a fantastic Menzerna compound.

The following image shows the difference as he began the polishing, it’s amazing how quickly the metal begins to shine.

Here the Sunblue has been finished and he is ready to move onto the WDR mop with P175 menzerna compound. The difference this ultra fine compound makes is incredible, it seems to lift a nice shiny finish to something a cut above. The WDR helps to get rid of any swirling.

The finished car, I think you’ll agree is a triumph! Shown here at the Manx Grand Prix. The finished racecarPolishing an Aluminium Racecar
